Jessica, also known as Jessie Hooks, has been crocheting since she was about 16 and it became a lifestyle about 6 years ago. Being a black woman, the oldest of seven, and coming from a multicultural, multi-racial immediate family, she has had to learn how to deal with difficulties, hurt, and racism from very early on in her life and continue to deal with uncomfortable conversations or biases each day.
One of the reasons Jessie wanted to be a part of the Floxsie DEI committee is that she believes that change has to start by oneself. The color of skin should not determine someone’s worth and if by being a part of a company that wants to encourage thoughts, reflections, and trying to change the narrative that America has created while using my passion for crafting - then this is where she feels called to be at this time.
When she’s not crocheting, you can find her with a cup of coffee, arguing in love with my family, laughing with friends, or at home snuggled up with my husband and her baby dog, Judah.
